Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) Explained

Better than I expected. Rare to find a technical book this well judged.

A colleague recommended this and I can see why. It does something that few technical books manage: it respects the reader's time. A few of the examples could be more realistic, but the underlying points come across clearly. I particularly liked the way the author builds up from simple cases before introducing the harder material. The writing is direct and does not waste space on filler, which I value in a technical book. This is the book I wish had existed when I started working with research.

Some terminology is introduced without much ceremony; I had to look a few things up along the way. The early chapters move quickly through material I already knew, but the later sections were genuinely new to me. An easy five stars from me. I look forward to whatever the author writes next.

This is the one to get if you are serious about research.

I have been working with research for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. The balance between theory and practice is well judged; neither side dominates. The author clearly knows the subject deeply and has thought hard about how to teach it. Some of the material is available elsewhere, but rarely presented this clearly. I have already recommended it to two colleagues and will recommend it to more.
